Resizing a Virtual Disk in VMware Fusion running Windows

Posted on timeNovember 25th, 2009 by userneil

There are two step to resizing a virtual disk in VMWare Fusion:
1. Resize the Virtual Disk using VMWare Fusion
2. Resize the Partition to fit the Unallocated Space in the Virtual Disk. I used the free version of EASEUS Partition Master to do this.
This was done using VMWare Fusion 2 running Windows XP Pro (Classic Appearance).

Part 1.1: Launch VMWare Fusion and Select the Virtual Machine

The Virtual Machine should be Powered Off.

1.2 Click: Virtual Machine > Settings

1.5 Click Apply

Note: You cannot size *down* the virtual disk. Be careful not to make it too big for the hard disk storing the virtual disk.

Part 2.1: To Resize the partition using EASEUS Patition Master

Go to the EASEUS website and download the Free for Home Users 32-bit Edition of EASEUS Partition Master.

Click General > Exit to quit EASEUS

If you down size the partition the computer needs to reboot

On clicking Yes, Windows will Shutdown and Restart.

Note: the Partition is the space within the virtual disk. It does not size down the virtual disk.

Another Restart happens when the Boot Mode operation has finished
