Sandvox - Web Sharing and Publish to Localhost

Posted on timeMay 13th, 2009 by userneil    flagComments Off

If you just export a site from Sandvox then open it with Safari, certain links will cause the Finder to open instead of the index.html page you want to see. To get around this, you can change a Sandvox default in the Terminal or, more easily, you can publish to your Sites folder. With Web Sharing turned on in System Preferences, you can navigate your localhost site as if it were published on the web.

1. Click: Apple > System Prefrences…

2. Click: [Internet & Network] Sharing

3. Click to Check: Web Sharing

This is Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

4. [In Sandvox] Click: Setup Host

5. [When Setup Host has not be used before] Click: Edit

6. [With a previous Setup Host setting] Click: New Configuration

7. Click: On This Computer

8. Click: Continue

9. Leave My Home Directory selected

For alternatives on Hostname and subfolder name see step 9 of:

http://www.stephowto.com/sandvox-setup-host-to-publish-to-local-folder/

10. I left the Hostname blank

11. Click: Continue

12. Ignore the Error

13. Click: Continue

14. You may want to copy the URL to the local site

15. Click: Done

16. Click: Publish

17. Publishing will be quick

18. Click: Site > Visit Published Site [to see the site in Safari]
